Set-up vegetable farm: Internship at PeerGroup

Set up of small-scale vegetable farm in Donderen – Province of Drenthe

Location: the headquarters of the PeerGroup, Depot Donderen. The vacated ammunition Depot Donderen was built in the time of the Cold War and is working space of the PeerGroup since January 2011. The bunker complex sits in a small forest and has several ammunition buildings of varying sizes with open space in between. The PeerGroup shares the grounds with care farm Peest. The site, with the neighbouring farms is popularly called ‘Donderboerkamp’.

Commissioner: PeerGroup, a theatrical group that specializes in site-specific theatre in the northern provinces of the Netherlands working with themes of, in and for rural communities.

STA73745The PeerGroup is looking for a student who relates to the creative energy of the artist community of PeerGroup while bringing along collaborative skills, agro-ecology knowledge and an open mind for co-creation and learning. The student will be selected on the basis of an intake on the site. The student develops a plan and makes it happen with the support of the PeerGroup. The student can live on-site during the internship.

Het innovatielab ‘020Stadslandbouw’ zoekt topstudent

Creative City Lab zoekt 16 toptalenten die een bijdrage willen leveren aan een nieuwe duurzame wereld. 020Stadslandbouw is een innovatielab van 2 maanden, dat duurt van 1 maart tot 3 mei 2013. Het project wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met de Rabobank, Economische Zaken van de Gemeente Amsterdam, Ymere, New Energy Docks en Stadsdeel Amsterdam-Noord. Dit lab staat in het teken van het verduurzamen van de voedselketen, met als uiteindelijk doel om te komen tot een haalbare business case over
stadslandbouw op een specifieke locatie midden in Amsterdam. Voor ondernemende studenten een prachtige manier om veel te leren, een netwerk op te bouwen en ervaring op te doen over stadslandbouw, duurzaam voedsel en duurzame gebiedsontwikkeling. Meer info in de flyer.

Building bridges: The PUREFOOD event “Beyond Divides: An International Winter School and Forum on Contemporary Agri-Food Issues” forges network, debate and learning

The PUREFOOD Network and the Food and Nutrition Observatory of the University of Barcelona played host to the international winter school ‘Beyond Divides: An International Forum on Contemporary Agri-Food Issues”, held in Barcelona from the 12th through the 22nd of November, 2012. The event featured contributions of leading international scholars including Professors Patricia Allen (Marylhurst College, USA), Michael K. Goodman (King’s College, UK), James Kirwan (Countryside and Community Research Institute, UK) and Jesús Contreras (Universitat de Barcelona, Spain). With a mission of fomenting debate, exchange and collaboration, the forum featured various opportunities and learning formats, including thematic panels and roundtables on contemporary themes such as food justice, alternative food networks, food and nutrition security, tradition and innovation. 2 week intensive course in Ghent

The Rural Sociology Group of Wageningen University offers Master students the possibility to participate in a 2-week intensive course on Micro-organisms and Traditional Food. During these intensive weeks, you follow lectures by various scholars from around Europe focusing on both social and microbiological sciences, you work on group assignments and go on excursions. This time the IP takes place in Ghent from 4 to 15 February 2013. Last year 4 MFT students experienced 2 interesting weeks in Rumania. Students invited for the course ‘A Global sense of place’

For whom?
We invite all master students interested in sustainable development, spatial development, community building, place-based policy, rural socio-logy and anthropology for this course.

What?
This course gives an overview of place-based approaches in development. A relational place-based approach is key to the understanding of interrelated rural and urban transformation processes and sustainable development. Places are considered as contingent but in time and space differentiated outcomes of three interrelated, unbounded, transformative processes: political-economic, ecological and social-cultural.
We will have discussions about:
• Sense of place
• Places as sites of negotiation and power struggles
• The constitution of identities, subjectivities and difference.
• Politics of place.

Why should you follow this course?
