Stichting Boerengroep (Peasant Foundation) is looking for a new coordinator starting April 1, 2023. The coordinator is a spider in the web of students, farmers, interest groups and educational institutions. Boerengroep has also a vacancy for an intern, from the end of March until the end of August 2023, to organize the coming 2023 Farm Experience Internship (FEI). The FEI is a four-week summer course on agroecology, see https://www.boerengroep.nl/what-is-the-fei/. As an intern you will help organizing, promoting and shaping the course content and contact farmers and students. Boerengroep 50 years: kick off. Farmers’ Protests with emeritus prof. Jan Douwe van der Ploeg

It has been 50 years since De Boerengroep (The Peasant Foundation) was founded in a turbulent time of large-scale farmer protests. A European farmers’ demonstration on March 23, 1971 rocked Brussels. Against this background of protests, the Boerengroep was established. Celebrating 50 years, De Boerengroep will organize a series of events. Monday,  February 15 they will kick off with a seminar about farmer protests then and now.

Jan Douwe van der Ploeg, one of the founders of the Boerengroep, and emeritus professor in Rural Sociology, he devoted a large part of his career to research on the “New Peasantries”. Currently, he is Adjunct Professor at COHD at CAU in Beijing, a member of the Board of Agroecology Europe and of the Advisory Board of the Northern Frisian Woodlands Territorial Cooperative.

Roel During, researcher at the Biodiversity and Policy team within Environmental research in WUR, expert on cultural history and resistance.

The Farm Experience Internship (FEI) is a 3ECTS summer course on agroecology that offers the students to get hands on experience from organic and bio-dynamic farms in the Netherlands. FEI 2014 LuizaFor my internship I have organised the Farm Experience Internship (FEI) 2014. The FEI is a international summer course at the Wageningen University for students and non-students, intended to bring theoretical knowledge from the University with practical skills and knowledge from farmers. Wageningen University students can get 3 ects credits for their participation in the FEI. Above you can see one of the FEI 2014 participants, Luiza from Brazil, harvesting ‘rainbow carrots’ in the Netherlands. Are you also interested in growing your own food, discovering local knowledge and practices on organic farms in the Netherlands? Do you want to learn about permaculture, agro-ecology and sustainable food systems? Would you like to interact and discuss with farmers to find creative, innovative ways of farming? “It’s the food, my friend!” – Joel Salatin to speak in Wageningen 9 May

On 9 May, Joel and Daniel Salatin from Polyface Farms will be speaking in Wageningen on their efforts to change agricultural practices and thinking in the US.
Joel will also be a keynote speaker for the closing day of the Food Film Festival in Amsterdam on 11 May. More information is available on the evening in Wageningen at the Facebook page for this event.
