UPDATE: The deadline for applications to the International Winter School and Forum on Contemporary Agri-food Issues, 12-22 November in Barcelona has been extended until October 11th. There are now a limited number of spots available in the course for a reduced fee of €400. Uitgegeten? #3 ‘De Toekomst van het Platteland’
Zonder het platteland geen voedsel! Maar, heeft u er wel eens bij stilgestaan dat ons voedselsysteem en consumptiepatroon van invloed is op hoe het buitengebied eruit ziet? De afgelopen decennia voelden veel boeren zich genoodzaakt om te investeren in megastallen of om te stoppen. Dit heeft niet alleen economische consequenties, maar is ook bepalend voor andere waarden die we aan het platteland verbinden, zoals; een aantrekkelijk landschap, een gezonde leefomgeving en kennis over de herkomst van voedsel. Tijdens het derde en laatste publieksdebat van de serie Uitgegeten? gaan we met ‘waarden-experts’ in op de toekomst van het agrarisch platteland. Welke waarden willen we behouden of juist ontwikkelen voor de toekomst? Hoe zou het platteland eruit zien als we onze voedselproductie vanuit die waarden zouden organiseren? En, kan duurzaam voedsel de link tussen boer en burger herstellen?

Uitgegeten? De toekomst van duurzaam eten is een verdiepende debatreeks over duurzaam voedsel georganiseerd door stichting Landwaard in samenwerking met LUX. Onderwerpen die eerder in de reeks aan de orde kwamen waren; de nieuwe voedselketen en stadslandbouw.

How to feed our cities in the future?

Today’s food system is in the line of fire. The advocates of an industrial food production coupled with a global economy are diametrically opposed to the supporters of local and ecological farming. Both parties defend their views with an almost religious belief. But the future of food is also the future of mankind.
Stroom Den Haag brings the two opposing parties together and into court. Experts from various fields and from different generations (from farmers to philosophers, from retailers to architects, from scientists to activists, from policymakers to politicians) will present their views on how to feed our cities in the future. Starting point is a threesome of visionary scenarios developed by artists/architects in connection with Stroom Den Haag’s ‘Foodprint’ program: Park Supermarket, City Pig and Foodscape Schilderswijk.
The tribunal concludes with a closing manifesto by a jury, stating how we can develop a sustainable food system for the city of the future. This manifesto will be published on the Stroom website and will be sent to all stakeholders. The setup of the food tribunal is in keeping with The Hague’s international profile as the City of Peace and Justice.
Interessante afstudeeropdracht in Tilburg
Tussen Udenhout, Berkel-Enschot en Tilburg Noord ligt de Nieuwe Warande. Het is een open landbouwgebied gelegen te midden van de geplande stedelijke uitbreidingen van de stad Tilburg. De gemeente Tilburg wil de randen van dit gebied gaan bebouwen. Onder leiding van de BMF hebben omwonenden, boeren en andere betrokken partijen in 2009 een visie opgesteld voor de Nieuwe Warande. Stadslandbouw en regionaal voedsel hebben daarbij als inspirerend uitgangspunt gediend. Het gevolg is dat nu ook gemeente Tilburg stadslandbouw hier actief op de kaart wil zetten. Daarmee blijven er economische dragers in het gebied aanwezig. Zij zorgen ervoor dat het gebied open en leefbaar blijft en kan fungeren als uitloopgebied voor omwonenden.
Wij zijn op zoek naar een student of (bij voorkeur) een groep studenten die in beeld brengt welke bedrijven of instanties (denk aan overheden, zorginstellingen, e.d.) interesse hebben in het aanbod van producten uit de regio, bijvoorbeeld ten behoeve van hun catering of als secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarde voor hun personeel. Hiervoor zul je actief contacten moeten leggen en gesprekken voeren met bedrijven in Tilburg. Continue reading
